Search across computers

Google's starting to scare me...

For example, their new desktop client has this service

This is all starting to look a bit like 'Google wants to organize the
world's information *by having a copy of it all*'! (as sort of predicted
here: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/40076)

Very usefull Enabling Search Across Computers
The Search Across Computers feature lets you access your Desktop index from multiple computers. For example, you can enable it to search your home computer from your work computer. To use this feature, you'll need a Google Account.

To enable this feature, follow the instructions below for each computer you plan to use:

Click the Desktop system tray icon .
Select Options.
Click the Google Account Features tab.
Select the'Search Across Computers' checkbox.
In the 'Google Account' section, enter your full Google Account username and password.
Click OK. Your unique computer name appears in the 'Name this computer' field. When you search your Desktop index on other computers, your search results display under this name. You can also use this name to search for results with the 'machine:' operator.
Select the types of files you'd like to make available to other computers.
Click Save Preferences
After you've successfully enabled Search Across Computers, Google Desktop will use your computer's Internet connection to upload and receive information from another computer
